In Inauguration, Pope Calls On Faithful To Protect Weakest, Poorest In The World

VATICAN CITY -

In his inauguration mass Tuesday at Saint Peter's Square, Pope Francis called on the faithful to protect the weakest and the poorest in the world.

The inauguration for the new leader of the Catholic church took place in front of thousands of people less than a week after he was elected.

More than 100 dignitaries and heads of state attended the mass, including Vice President Joe Biden.

Pope Francis met with the dignitaries after the mass.

As the mass began, Pope Francis greeted the faithful from the "pope-mobile" for nearly half an hour. At one point, he signaled the jeep to stop as it approached a group of people in wheelchairs so that he could step out and bless a man propped up to a barricade.
