ATLANTA -

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson served as guest teacher for third-graders in southwest Atlanta on Monday.

Isakson was the special substitute as Gideons Elementary on Welch Street as part of the "Teach for America Week."

Isakson is former chairman of the Georgia Board of Education.

Founded in 1990, Teach for America gets leaders involved in expanding educational opportunity.

This year's event runs through Friday.
