Bring your sneakers to work April 3 and celebrate National Walking Day

It's called by many the most perfect exercise that anyone can do: walking.

If you need a little jump start to begin your walking program, here it is. Next week the American Heart Association celebrates National Walking Day. This means bring your sneakers to work on April 3 and plan to walk for 10, 20 or 30 minutes.

Remember this, if you're struggling to find time to walk during your work day, poor diet and lack of exercise are responsible for at least 25 percent of working adults' healthcare costs.

On Monday, Beaumont's Dr. Barry Franklin stopped by FOX 2 to talk about the added benefits of walking and his book, co-authored with Robert Sweetgall, 'One Heart, Two Feet.' Click here to learn more about walking workshops presented by Sweetgall.

Parents and teachers know school supplies don't come cheap. Many teachers even buy school supplies out-of-pocket. But now, a new Detroit company is doing more than selling school supplies - they're also giving back.
