Woman raped in NYC cemetery

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A woman was abducted and raped in a New York City cemetery early Monday morning.

The NYPD says it happened about 4:45 a.m. in the Elmurst section of Queens.

The knife wielding suspect approached the 41-year-old victim near Corona Avenue and threatened to stab her.

The suspect forced the victim to a nearby cemetery and proceeded to rape her.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

The suspect is described as black or Hispanic, 25-30 years old, 150-175 lbs,with black spiked hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.  Police say all callers are kept confidential.

    Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.

    There was a wild scene on the Van Wyck Expressway on Sunday. A large group of dirt bikers and ATV riders were driving recklessly near Hillside Avenue. Police say many of the bikers were going the wrong way on the road bringing traffic to a stop.
