DETROIT (WJBK) -

FOX 2 has obtained the photo of a homicide suspect who police say shot two Detroit officers on the city's west side Tuesday evening.

FOX 2's Roop Raj says Matthew Joseph was killed during the shootout on Linwood between Hooker and McGraw.

The wounded officers were rushed to Henry Ford Hospital. One, a 12-year veteran, was shot in the head three times, while the other, a 24-year veteran, was shot in the leg, according to Sgt. Eren Stephens.

Stephens says the 12-year veteran remained in critical condition, while the 24-year veteran was treated and released Wednesday morning.

At a news conference, Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan said it all started around 6:15 p.m. The CVRP and ATF Task Force made up of several agencies were going after Joseph, who was suspected in a March 28 murder. They attempted to pull him over in the 3700 block of 25th Street, but Joseph, with two passengers in his vehicle, tried to get away.

"The vehicle was finally stopped at Linwood and Hooker where the suspect in the homicide fired shots at the officers, who returned fire. Two officers were shot. The suspect was fatally wounded. At this time, we will be providing no further details," Logan said.

Raj say the passengers included 26-year-old Jasmire King, who remains in police custody. A woman in the vehicle was taken into custody and released.
