    The Detroit Police Department is mourning the death of one of their own. A DPD spokesperson confirms the death of Patrick Hill, a 12-year veteran.
    Detroit police officer Patrick Hill will be laid to rest Monday morning. His funeral is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.

    FOX 2 has obtained the photo of Matthew Joseph, a homicide suspect killed in a shootout on the city's west side that left two Detroit officers wounded, including one who remains in critical condition.

Two Detroit police officers were shot in the line of duty on Tuesday.  One remains in critical condition, while the other is now recovering at home.

"Good guys," said Donald Dawkins with the ATF.  "They're with us so much that [we forget] they're part of DPD.... We're all a family."

Detroit police aren't releasing the officers' name, but they say one was shot in the head and the other shot in the leg.  They are members of an elite, ATF-led task force concentrated in northwest Detroit.

"We look for the worst of the worst," Dawkins said.

It appears 23-year-old Matthew Joseph fit the bill.  He was wanted for a March 28 murder.  Joseph had just been paroled in October after doing time for armed robbery.

We're told the task force ordered him to pull over, but instead he took off.  When they finally had his car boxed in, The officers approached the vehicle and Joseph opened fire.  The task force fired back.  Joseph was killed.

Dawkins said he had just seen them both that morning.

"I bumped into them, and we talked a little bit, joked around," he explained.

The sergeant has been released, but the officer is at the hospital.  Dawkins has met with his family and said he is surrounded by support and prayers.

"The family is holding together pretty well," he said.

The officers' families have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.
