BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -

Nearby residents said the ground trembled and windows shook after an explosion at Plant Bowen on Thursday.

Two people suffered minor injuries after the blast at the coal-fired power station, according to Georgia Power.

Johnny Mitchell says the blast was so strong that it blew over the flower pots outside his barbeque restaurant, which is located two miles away from the power plant.

"It shook the entire building. The whole building just rattled -- you felt the pressure inside of the rattling," Mitchell said. "The first thing I thought of, I said, ‘Oh my God, I hope nothing happened at the plant. Then of course we found out a few minutes later something had happened."

The Moore family within site of the plant and were in the yard when they felt the explosion.

"I was really scared. I felt like I was about to have a heart attack," Cameron Moore.

Alexis Marrero says she didn't know what was going on when the walls of her house started shaking.

"I was watching TV and all of a sudden there was a big noise. The whole house shook. The dogs started freaking out.  I guess I was just confused at first, then there was a roaring noise," said Marrero.

Mitchell said he feared the worst when he saw ambulances from different counties coming in, but was relieved to hear there were only two minor injuries.
