CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Monday is Holocaust Remembrance Day. As Jews around the world gathered to remember those whose lives were taken, a new exhibit opened at the Daley Center, honoring World War II hero Jan Karski.

Karski was a young officer in the Polish army. He was also the first person to expose the destruction of the Jewish people, in German-occupied Poland.

The exhibit will run through April 23.

Jewish people around the world are also remembering the events surrounding World War II.

A remembrance ceremony took place in Jerusalem, in memory of the 6 million Jews killed during the war.

The largest gathering of holocaust survivors in the Midwest was at a synagogue in Skokie.
