CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A 62-year-old man is recovering after fighting off an armed robber inside a Logan Square store Tuesday.

Police said two robbers entered the small retail store in the 2200 block of North Western Avenue, announcing the stick-up about 5:30 p.m.

One armed robber grabbed store owner Luis Quizhpe's brother, as the second robber rounded the counter for the money.

That's when the first shot was fired. The bullet missed Luis and hit the other robber instead. Both attackers then try to flee, but were trapped by an automatic lock.

As if those first confrontations weren't scary enough, the frustrated gunman still trapped inside, came back, jumped the counter and went after Quizhpe again, only to have the gun batted out of his hand and his head the target of batting practice.

Luis Quizhpe says he's okay and grateful to God that he's alive.

"Thank you to Jesus, that he let me one more chance," Quizhpe says.

"My dad's definitely a brave individual," the victim's son, Juan, says. "Very tough and as you can tell, he's a tough cookie."

The first time Juan Quizhpe watched the surveillance video, he said it was very hard to see his father squaring off with a man with a gun.

"I was scared for my father's life," Juan says. "I knew he was okay, but watching it for the first time, it's bad."

Juan Quizhpe says God was looking out for his father.

"To God be the glory because he was there and that's not luck, it's not," Juan says. "That wasn't luck."

The robbers eventually got out of the store with Luis' brother chasing them away.
