Braves fans welcome extra security measures

ATLANTA -

The Braves game was just the beginning of a series of big events scheduled to take place in the Atlanta over the next couple of days -- from sports to concerts and festivals.

Some Braves fans admitted their thoughts were on the Monday's deadly bombing in Boston as they made their way into Turner Field on Tuesday.

Heather Hogan talked to her sons about the bombings before they arrived.

"Just in real simple words, that a bad thing happened with a bad man and we just needed to say a little prayer for the families of everybody that was affected and just to keep on going with life," Hogan said.

FOX 5 found fans who were patient with security screeners and readily emptied pockets, unpacked lunches and welcomed extensive bag searches a little over 24 hours after the deadly explosion.

The Braves said in a statement, "Our awareness is heightened. We have been and remain in communication with law enforcement, public safety and other appropriate agencies as we prepare for our games."

Increased security measures included 16 officers on bicycles circling the stadium.

Justin Harris and his young family said  the more time the screeners take, the better.

"She wanted to make sure she saw all the way to the bottom and make sure the diaper bag was clear," said Harris. "Knowing that I'm safe inside, it makes me feel better. Taking extra time is great."

The Braves went on to win their 10th straight game, beating the Kansas City Royals 6-3.

With the Hawks and Braves playing in town this weekend, as well Taylor Swift, the Dogwood Festival and the Sweetwater 420 Festival going on, attendees may want to head to these events early due to increased security measures.
