Salvation through song in the city of Detroit

DETROIT (WJBK) -

In a building along the Detroit River a group of men have found harmony. But it's more than sound, it's life at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center.

These men have beaten back the demons of addiction and misfortune and found pure joy as members of the ARC singers.

"Getting back into the habit of living without real high highs and real low lows, that's the way it is with substance abuse," said Charles Champion, the director of music program and counselor at the center.

Champion says he lived on the streets of Detroit for 11 years before coming to the center to turn his life around.

His singers record at the center and perform live throughout the year. "It's a springboard, it's music therapy," said Champion.

FOX 2's Lee Thomas has more in this video report.
