WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Across the country, people were running for Boston. A fun run called the Compatriot's 5K was held in 13 states Saturday to raise money for the Boston Marathon bombing victims. Several local runners who were at the Boston Marathon took part in a run in Warren.

The freedom to do what they love was one thing propelling the runners forward; the desire to help the more than 180 victims of the Boston Marathon bombings was an even bigger driving force.

"I just feel so so bad for the victims and for that little boy and for everyone the two women who died," said Kathy Clark of Fraser. "It's just so upsetting. It's such a wonderful patriotic event to turn into such a tragedy."

Clark finished the race just four minutes before the first bomb went off. She and two other local runners who were in Boston that day joined about 70 others at Warren Parks and Rec for the Compatriot's 5K in solidarity with the victims and their families.

"I was happy and honored to run Boston I'm even more honored to run for Boston," said James Lau of Sterling Heights. He finished the Boston Marathon about half and hour before the blasts.

Money raised at all 13 Compatriot's 5K's will go to the One Fund Boston, created by the governor of Massachusetts and Boston's mayor to help all of the victims whose lives will never be the same.
