ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A lot of people have burglary systems at their homes.  Now, there's a way to make sure your home is your secure, using your smartphone.

Xiomara Rodriguez's home is armed with the Vivint Alarm System, but it's more than just an alarm. It's a system that monitors your entire home, and for Rodriguez, it's a peace of mind.

"Been using them for about 18 months now and love it.  It just makes life easier," she said.

Rodriguez is a traveling business owner.  Between work, her children and her grandchildren, she's always on the go.  with her busy lifestyle, she finds that she forgets little things.

"You leave in the morning, you're in such a rush, and you're half way down the street and you say, 'Oh, did I close my garage door?'  There's no more having to turn around and drive back to make sure you closed it.  You just look on your phone and you get and instant status and you see your garage door is closed."

In fact, she can check any door that has an alarm sensor on it.   With a few swipes on her phone, she can also tell who went through the door last.  this type of smart home technology is a new and growing trend in home security.  several companies offer similar options.

The system Rodriguez uses allows her to view surveillance cameras and even adjust the temperature of the home.
