FBI searches home of Tamerlan Tsarnaev's in-laws

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Five FBI agents paid a visit Monday to the family home of Katherine Russell, the widow of Bomber No. 1 Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Investigators spent an hour-and-a-half inside the North Kingstown, R.I., home.

According to the Wall Street Journal, investigators collected Russell's DNA.

In the last two weeks, the FBI has visited the Russell home four times. This is the first time they've left with evidence, including an agent seen holding a pair of scissors in a clear plastic bag, which may indicate the feds took a hair sample.

Russell's lawyer claims she had no prior knowledge of the attacks and is doing everything she can to help the investigation.

Russell, a Rhode Island native and convert from Christianity, was married to the 26-year-old Tamerlan, who was killed during a getaway attempt in Watertown. Russell has been staying at her parents' North Kingstown house.

Russell was attending Suffolk University in Boston when friends introduced her to her future husband at a nightclub. In 2010, Russell dropped out of college and converted to Islam for Tsarnaev. Soon after, the pair married and Russell became pregnant with his child, Zahara, now 3 years old.

Russell's lawyer last week said his client did not suspect her husband of anything, and that there was no reason for her to have suspected him. He said Russell had been working 70 to 80 hours, seven days a week as a home health care aide. While she was at work, her husband cared for their daughter.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev's brother, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was transferred Friday from a Boston hospital to a federal prison medical center in Devens.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar, two ethnic Chechen brothers from southern Russia, are accused of planting two explosives near the marathon finish line April 15, killing three people and injuring more than 260.
