Water department finds no problem under sinking home

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Following a FOX 32 News story Wednesday night, city crews quickly responded to a South Side house sinking into the ground.

The Chicago Water Department and city contractors tested the area around a house in the 9000-block of South Loomis, after a sinkhole in the basement destroyed the home's foundation and caused windows to pop out.

The owner of that house, Crystal Aidara, is being forced to evacuate her family.

"I was told that there will be a report made by the city of Chicago and once that report is completed they'll have more answers," Aidara says.

A spokesman for the water department tells FOX 32 they found no significant problems with the water pipes under her street.

People's Energy also sent a team of inspectors.

Aidara believes a gas leak under the street last year may have contributed to the sinkhole.
