Peter Asher & Denny Laine Rock Out For Brit Week

Peter Asher & Denny Laine Rock Out For Brit Week

Posted: Updated:

Music industry legend Peter Asher plays a selection of Peter & Gordon hits as he hosts a special Brit week performance of The Beatles' classic Abbey Road album-complete and unabridged. He and Denny Laine, co founder of the Moody Blues and Wings, talked about their Saturday show in Santa Monica with Steve and Maria on Good Day LA.

Both Time and Rolling Stone magazines named Abbey Road as one of the 100 greatest albums of all time, with "Come Together", "Here Comes The Sun", "Something" and the side two medley culminating in "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" among the immortal songs on the finale to the Beatles' recording career.

Asher will contribute some of the most memorable music of the Sixties to the program as he sings songs he brought to the U.S. Among them are the global number one "World Without Love", as well as two other titles also given to Peter & Gordon by Paul McCartney, "Nobody I Know" and "I Don't Want to See You Again". Expect Del Shannon's "I Go to Pieces" and more to round out Asher's set list.

Denny Laine will sing hits he recorded with Paul McCartney and Wings such as "Band on the Run", "Time to Hide", and "Live and Let Die" as well as the aforementioned Moody Blues classic "Go Now". Likewise, Terry Sylvester will bring a sampling of some of the Hollies' 23 U.S. chart hits such as "Bus Stop", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "The Air That I Breathe", and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress."

The concert is part of the Downtown Santa Monica Spring Jubilee, which in coordination with Britweek is presenting a series of events from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 4 and 5 on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

The concert itself will be on the stage set up in the Courtyard -known as "The Plaza" - on the ground level, known as level one, of Santa Monica Place. Santa Monica Place is on Broadway between Second Street and Fourth Street in Santa Monica; it is bordered on the side opposite Broadway by Colorado Avenue. Parking lots are found at the corner of Fourth Street and Broadway and at the corner of Second Street and Colorado Avenue. Seating for the 7 p.m. concert is limited.
