PSPCA Busts Suspected Dog Fighting Ring

PSPCA Busts Suspected Dog Fighting Ring

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say inhumanity reared its head at 326 Van Kirk.

"These guys that do this,  in my view are scum bags,"exclaimed PSPCA officer George Bengal.

Bengal is one of the PSPCA officers who helped rescue five pit bulls from the Lawndale home.

"They're all scarred," he said. All of them.

The officers' multi-month investigation leads them to believe the wounded, emaciated  dogs are part of mid-level fighting and breeding ring that's been going on for years in the basement of the home.

For hours Saturday PSPCA officers pulled training treadmills, forced breeding and weight harnesses as well as other fighting and breeding  paraphernalia  out of the home.

In the midst of their seizure, the moment they'd been waiting for.

The dogs' owner returned from the mall. Officers promptly outfitted with a pair of handcuffs.

When asked if he was fighting dogs he responded, "This is my home. I'm not dog fighting. "

When asked about the dog ring at the home, he said " There's no ring back there."

According to police that's not true. Minutes later they carried plywood out of the home they

say was used for a fighting ring in the basement.

Investigators say they could make one more arrest. The suspect in custody is facing several charges including federal dog fighting and keeping the dogs in inhumane conditions.

  • Beautiful Easter Sunday

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
