SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Hundreds of children and adults are expected to take part in Savannah's Youth Summit 2013, which brings together young people to discuss community issues.

City officials say more than 645 people have registered for the conference Monday evening at the Savannah Civic Center. The Youth Summit gathers local residents between the ages of 11 and 20.

In small groups, they identify specific challenges young people face in the community. Ultimately their ideas are used to come up with an action plan to address youth issues in Savannah and surrounding Chatham County.

A special forum for parents will also be held during the summit. Students who participate in the event receive community service credit.
