GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

35-year-old Sabrina Gianino was found dead inside her boyfriend's flat on Wayburn in Grosse Pointe Park just after midnight on Wednesday. A cord was found wrapped around her neck and a little blood nearby.

Police are calling the death suspicious, but family and close friends suspect something more sinister. They said her purse, computer and phone were also missing.

"Everything looks good and happy and normal," said Bonnie Leone, who claimed the family spoke with her. "It's like a nightmare. It's a nightmare."

Everything seemed normal to her neighbors, too. They said they talked to Gianino when she got home Wednesday from the Platz Animal Hospital where she worked. She decided to plant flowers. She eventually went inside, but never came out. What was odd, both her neighbor and her landlord noticed the back door was left open for most of the night.

"It's never usually open like that. I thought that was unusual," said landlord Chip Warren. "But I thought I better just leave it alone."

"I believe it was open right up until the authorities showed up," said neighbor Bob Toole.

"Did you hear anything out of the ordinary?" I asked.

"No. That's the question," he said.

No one heard anything, and there was no forced entry. It was her boyfriend who returned home from this job at Marge's bar just after midnight and discovered Gianino. He was the one that dialed 911.

Police questioned and released him. We caught up with him at his workplace, but he refused an interview.

"We just spoke briefly. I wanted to see how he's doing, and he said he just got out of the police station. He's going to go get some rest at a friend's house, and he can't get back in the house," Warren said.

Police spent the day collecting evidence at the boyfriend's home where Gianino spent most of her time, and then her home on Beaconsfield where she kept her six cats. They are trying to figure out just what happened to this woman who loved her animals, friends, and especially her mother, who told us off camera she is heartbroken. Her only daughter is gone.

"I feel horrible for her, and I feel horrible for her mother," Toole said.

"She loved animals. She loved her job. She loved her friends. She liked to be with her friends. It's not real, just not real," Leone said.

Right now, we do not have an official cause of death. We're told that the medical examiner will be testing for everything, including sexual assault. The autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
