HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Investigators say DNA tests confirm that human remains found in Hawkinsville are those of a college student who disappeared last month.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday the positive identification was obtained through DNA testing with Jmaal Malik Keyes' parents. The remains were found last week in an area where a building burned around the time the 19-year-old was last seen.
The site where the remains were found is near the home of a 17-year-old who faces a murder charge in Keyes' death. The teen was being held Friday in the Pulaski County jail, and a bond hearing had not been set.
The suspect was "dual-enrolled" at his high school and Middle Georgia State College, where Keyes was a freshman. The Associated Press generally doesn't identify juveniles charged with crimes.
