Posted: Updated:

"My Brother Marvin" is, as you may suspect, about legendaryand iconic soul singer Marvin Gaye.  And if you think you knew everything there is to know about Marvin, think again.  This version brings to life on stage the uncut, untold stories told from the perspective of Marvin's sister, Zeola Gaye.

"My Brother Marvin" has uncovered some stories from their late mother's memoirs and father's letters, previously thought to have gone to the grave with their mother.  And playing the mother in this engagement is Lynn Whitfield, who joins Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day L.A.

Fun facts about Lynn Whitfield:

  • Whitfield was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
  • She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Special and a NAACP Image Award for her performance as Josephine Baker in the HBO movie The Josephine Baker Story (1991).
  • A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and Gone Fishin' (both 1996) increased her exposure. Whitfield then appeared in Eve's Bayou (1997), as the head of a prosperous, socially prominent black family in Louisiana.
