Girl Dies After Kingsessing Fire Despite Brother's Rescue

PHILADELPHIA -

One of the children rescued from a burning home in Philadelphia on Saturday morning passed away.

The fire erupted around 5:30 Saturday morning trapping several children inside the house on the 6500 block of Windsor Street in Kingsessing.

Rakeeba Jeffreys, 6, was pulled off life support Saturday night.

FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported from the fire scene.

"There's a lot of tears," said Jasmine's uncle Bruce Kennedy. "I'm trying to hold them back now."

"We tried to use this water hose and tried to use that water hose," Tracey Gordon said, pointing at a hose pipe she used trying to extinguish the flames.

Family members say Jujuan Moore was the only adult home while his mother worked. They're calling him a hero.

"He's the one who saved everyone," said Kennedy. "Without Jujuan, pretty much everyone would be gone."

What caused the fire is still under investigation. Family members tell us a space heater in Jujuan's upstairs bedroom sparked a mattress fire. They say it spread when he tried to get it out of the house.

As family members comforted one another outside the Cobbs Creek home there was little thought of the charred belongings and their home that's been destroyed, just of the children, especially what turned out to be the loss of young Rakeeba.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
