New Yorkers know that finding street parking is not easy. Drivers can circle for a minute or even an hour – and even then you still may not find that parking spot.
Many drivers give up or end up spending money on an expensive parking garage.
"It's just a complete and utter nightmare!" said one NYC driver.
"I get a ticket because it says parking from 7-11, then up top it says "no parking: school," added another driver.
They're problems that Williamsburg resident Sam Abrahamson knows all too well.
"You can spend just 30 minutes going around the block looking for a parking space or a parking garage."
Now there's an app for that!
"ParkMe? Is that like for androids?
Yes, and it's available for an iPhone.
Abrahamson says the app has revolutionized his driving experience.
"The ParkMe app is really helpful, especially because you can pull over and stop for a second and find a place where you could park."
The app helps you find nearby garages and compare prices. ParkMe founder Sam Friedman says he thought of it with his buddy when parking in Los Angeles became a problem.
"We were driving around the block in downtown Santa Monica and we became a little too frustrated, and realized that parking could be fixed," said Friedman.
So just how does it work?
"We actually have people on the ground in New York collecting parking information from every single parking garage across New York's five boroughs," said Friedman.
That information is then presented in an easy to use format on your smartphone so you can find the cheapest available parking. Abrahamson says it takes the guess work out of the question, should I drive or take public transportation?
"Being able to use an app like ParkMe, especially in New York, it really helps you make that decision a lot quicker."
In the future, the ParkMe app will be able to find street parking as well. The app is available in 1,800 cities in 32 countries.
