DETROIT (WJBK) -

Crews are reporting some progress as they work to repair a 42-inch water main that burst causing flooding at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Rosa Parks in the city of Detroit.

The water has receded, replaced by construction workers busy making the necessary repairs.

The break happened around 3 a.m. Thursday morning turning parts of 12th Street into a virtual river.

Dwayne Whitaker was fishing in the Detroit River when suddenly he was trapped by the overflowing water. "More water than I've ever seen since I've been fishing down here. I'm part of the Detroit River Rats, which is a fishing club, we've been fishing down here for 20-to-30 years. I've never seen anything like this in my life," Whitaker said.

Mary Alfonso with the city of Detroit said residents who live in the area experienced low water pressure, but never lost water all together. Truck drivers and those responsible for putting cargo on the rigs at TransFlow, a nearby business, were forced to wait to get into their lots to start their day.  By 7 a.m. crews had the main turned off and the trucks were rolling once again.

So far there's no word on what caused the water main break.
