FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Most of the seniors at the Devon Square Apartments are on a fixed income. In subsidized housing, there is not a lot of extra cash for activities to keep them active.

Last year, the community manager tried to plant a garden for the seniors, but the garden boxes were too low to the ground and they couldn't tend to their crops like they wanted until now.

This week, Colegunn Services, the apartments' landscaping company, heard about the dilemma and without even being asked constructed three senior friendly garden boxes more accessible and higher off the ground.

Colegunn says it's because they appreciate the business, and it never hurts to pay it forward.

"To give back to seniors in this area just as a thank you for all the things that they've done in their lives to create the opportunities for us to live in the manner in which we do," said Robert Markiewicz.
