Organic meals for children delivered to your home

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The parents of New York toddler Alex Pardo are very concerned about his diet. Salvadore Pardo says often he and his wife don't have time to provide all the healthy choices they'd like.

"We just really tried to avoid giving him processed foods," he said. "It was becoming more and more difficult to intreoduce variety and cook everything at the same time."

Seeing a need for families like Alex's, Nokomis Pfeiffer started a business that prepares and delivers organic meals for children to your home. It is called Komi Organics.

"And I realized that parents really do -- they're very concerned with what their kids are eating and the purity of their food," she said. "I thought there might be a place, somewhere for a service like this to provide healthy organic food for children."

Her business is focused on Brooklyn and Manhattan. It is part of a growing trend of organic food services offering deliveries to parents exploring healthier options.

What is on the menu one night? Lasagna with whole wheat, organic noodles, raw organic cheeses, fresh shiitake mushrooms and vegetables. That lasagna made its way to young Alex's house.

Komi Organics offers a few different options for meal subscriptions including $82 a week for a child.

New York City is exploring ways to curb the speed of taxis. The Taxi and Limousine Commission this week issued a request for information on "anti speeding vehicle technologies."  The measures include devices that can intervene when drivers exceed posted speeds and "advisory systems" that can sound alarms when reckless driving is detected.
