Buying products online can be a bit of a gamble, especially when it comes to sizing up what works for you.

"I worry about buying anything online because you don't really know if it's going to fit," said Lisa Rios.

Her uncertainty with cyber shoe shopping led her to try the website

"They have this great icon that you can click on, and it will compare the shoe that you're currently wearing to the shoe you're hoping to buy and give you a 3D image," Rios said.

In fact, websites and mobile apps like this are popping up all over. They're fully equipped with the latest virtual technology to keep you a savvy shopper without actually visiting the store.

"This is an added convenience to shopping online. They have all this information in front of them, and they can just make a well informed decision without having to leave the house," said Alison Barretta, senior editor of

And it's boosting consumer confidence in all kinds of online purchases, not just clothes.

"We offer a variety of simulation technology such as cosmetics, skin care, nails, hair, eye color, even weight loss," said Hillary Sica, director of partnership for ModiFace.

They have an array of apps aimed at helping girls get exactly what they need right at their fingertips.

"All you have to do is snap a photo right from your device while you're in the application and start," Sica said.

So hating that hairstyle or in the market for new makeup, a few clicks on their app will bring the store to you.

"You can play around with eyeshadows, eyeliners, massacres, blush, foundation, lip gloss, anything, and all you do is tap the color you want and it goes directly onto your photo," Sica explained.

The colors and products are replicas of what is in the store, so your final look is guaranteed.

"When we partner with a brand, they supply us with all of their product information. We study them. We try them on. We see how they would look in real life. We take that information, we use our technology to kind of translate that into a virtual application of the same products right onto their photo," Sica said.

There is even a link to buy it once you try it.

More web companies are developing virtual apps that let you try before you buy. There are several "try it on" apps for different eye wear companies, and jewelry companies are using technology to let you try on rings and watches. Some even let you design your own.
