Motorcyclist dies at railroad crossing, police say

A motorcyclist died Friday morning when he hit a railroad crossing arm, Port Orange Police say.

The accident occurred around 9:30 AM at the intersection of Nova Road and the FEC railroad crossing. The Crossing arm had been lowered for an approaching train.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene after being ejected from the motorcycle. Police say there was no helmet worn and that no contact was made with the train.

The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification of his kin. This traffic fatality remains under active investigation by the Port Orange Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit.
