BRIDGEVIEW (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A southwest suburban teen pleaded guilty to being drunk when he fatally struck a 4-year-old girl chasing a ball in the street has been sentenced to probation and community service.

Deandre Wolfe, of Oak Forest, was 17 years old when he was charged as an adult in August 2011 with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI for the crash that killed Annabella Loerop of Tinley Park on May 9, 2011, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Wolfe, who was 16 at the time of the crash, pleased guilty on June 13 to one count of aggravated DUI, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Lisa Gordon. He had originally been held on a $250,000 bond.

Judge John Hynes then sentenced him to two years probation, 480 hours of community service and a fine of $1,989, Gordon said.

Annabella, of the 6500 block of 175th Street in Tinley Park, was struck by the car about 4 p.m. May 9 in the street in front of her home, police said. She was pronounced dead at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest about 90 minutes later.

The child had chased a basketball into the street when the car hit her, a neighbor said at the time. The car was eastbound on 175th when it struck the girl. Two postal workers driving westbound drove by seconds later and stopped to help the girl.
