Natura Salmonella Risk

Pet food recall

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma branded dry pet food and biscuit, bar, and treat products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014, because of a positive Salmonella test. The recall affects all lot codes, UPCs, and package sizes.

"We are truly sorry. We know this news disappoints you; we are disappointed too," the company said in a statement on its website. "Natura will always focus on high-quality ingredients, product safety and innovation in pet nutrition. We remain committed to making products you can trust."

Salmonella can pose a risk not only to your pet but to you or anyone who handles the pet's food. Salmonella infection symptoms in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.

"Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting," the company said in a press release. "Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans."

The affected products were sold in bags at veterinary clinics, some specialty retailers, and online in the United States and Canada

This recall does not affect wet food products.

If you have any of the recalled products, stop feeding them to your pet and contact Natura Pet Products for a replacement voucher or refund.

If an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts is part of your afternoon routine, expect a nudge to buy a cookie or doughnut you didn't plan on. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said in a phone interview Thursday that the company is pushing to get its cashiers to "upsell" to afternoon customers. It's part of an effort to increase sales after stores have emptied out after the morning rush.
