CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A man is in jail, accused of murdering a well-liked pizzeria owner who was trying to protect his wife.

Family and friends closest to the pizzeria owner say news of an arrest provides some closure, but that they will never be the same. Giovanni Donancricchia was known as the patriarch of his family and beloved by customers. Many continue to grieve over the loss of this father, friend and husband who died while shielding his wife from harm's way.

Son-in-law Bill Fleischer and family members saw the snapshots from the surveillance video this morning. It was difficult for the family because they know that in the picture at that exact time is right before Giovanni was fatally shot.

Brown-Turner was arrested early Friday morning after a witness apparently came forward and told police that he confessed to being involved in the deadly attack while watching the story on TV. The 23-year-old is charged with murder and attempted armed robbery.

"Our hope is that the police do as good of a job as they've been doing, and that there are no loopholes that come up that might prevent him from being punished to the fullest extent of the law," Bill said.

In Cicero, an ever growing memorial greeted customers, including Joaquina. "It's sad, it shouldn't happen. What can you say but it's happening everywhere, but my condolences go out to him and his family. They are beautiful people, they've been in that neighborhood for years," Joaquina said.

"That was Giovanni, he wanted to protect my mother in law, he was a very proud person, a very strong individual. He was good natured and good hearted and he was trying to do the right thing and stop the individual from taking something that wasn't his," Bill proudly claimed.

Giovanni Donancricchi is survived by his wife and six grandchildren. His siblings are flying in from Italy and his funeral will take place this week.
