Forest Hills Tennis Stadium to host concerts

Forest Hills Tennis Stadium to host concerts

Posted: Updated:

A sports and concert site in Queens that once hosted the U.S. Open tournament, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra and the Rolling Stones is poised to return as a music venue.

The New York Times says Forest Hills Tennis Stadium officials and a promoter have agreed to hold 19 concerts at the Queens site over the next three years.

The stadium is undergoing renovation after years of neglect. It is located in a residential area.

"You might as well use it than turn it into condos," a local resident told Good Day NY.

The first concert, featuring Mumford & Sons, is set for Aug. 28. It'll be followed by six in each of the next three summers.

Club President Roland Meier says it's hoped that the concerts will help finance the refurbishing of the stadium and lead to the return of tennis and other top events.
