Visually Impaired Yeadon Woman Says Handymen Robbed Her In Her Home

Posted: Updated:
YEADON, Pa. -

A Yeadon woman says she feels unsafe in her own home. We're not using her name to protect her.

"I feel very violated," said the victim. She said two men and a woman were in her home last Thursday and Saturday to do work. She's been blind for about six years and said she noticed things missing Monday morning.

"They were robbing me blind. No pun intended but that's really what they were doing."

The woman said she's known the older man several years because he is visually impaired too and goes to the same Blind Center she attends. She said he brought his son and the son's female friend over to do the work. Monday is when she said she noticed rare jewelry, diamonds and cash missing from the dresser drawers in her bedroom where the workers had been painting the ceiling.

"The diamond earrings were in the drawer here and they took that out of here," the woman claimed.

She immediately filed a report with Yeadon Borough Police. Police said they had the father and son in for questioning Tuesday but were still trying to locate the woman. We tracked down the father who's name and face we're concealing since he has not been charged.

"I've been going to her house over five years. I've never touched nothing unless she gives me something. I talked with my son and he said he didn't touch nothing," said the man.

In the meantime, the victim says her trust is gone.

"Blind people try to be as independent as possible and now I have so much doubt about myself. It's almost like I'm one of those people who need help, who need somebody with them."

Police say this is an active investigation and they're looking at everyone who may have been at the victim's house that week in addition to three workers. Police are also waiting for surveillance video from a bank ATM where the victim claims her card was used to withdraw money.
