NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

New York City's public outdoor pools opened for the summer Thursday.

All 55 pools will be open daily from 11 am to 7 pm through Labor Day.

"Always swim where the lifeguards are and always swim with a buddy. Never swim if you are drinking. And when you have kids, keep an eye on your children. In the hot weather, drink water and put sunscreen on," said Bill Castro, Manhattan Borough Commissioner.

The Parks Department is also offering free swim lessons for toddlers, children and adults at many of the pools.

There will be three sessions this summer.
