DETROIT (WJBK) -

The family of a 26-year-old mother killed in a freeway crash earlier this week says it was no accident. Instead, the family of Tyeissha Washpun calls it murder.

Washpun was driving along eastbound I-96 early Monday morning near Schaefer when witnesses say a gray Pontiac rear-ended her minivan, sending both vehicles into the median wall.

Washpun was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was injured and taken to a local hospital.

Washpun's family believes her ex-boyfriend was that driver and targeted her on the road. "Someone tried to deliberately kill my baby, and he did," said Tyeissha's mother Shalonda Washpun. "She didn't deserve this."

Shalonda says her daughter dated the man for a brief time and was trying to break off the relationship.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation and would not offer any comment on the allegations.

A fund has been set up for those who would like to help the family with funeral expenses. Those interested can contact any Comerica Bank branch and mention Tyeissha Washpun's name.

A trust fund has also been established at Fifth Third Bank for Dorian Ivye, Washpun's 7-year-old son.
