After 15 Days, School Budget Protesters Break Fast

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Parents and staff members who were protesting the lay off of noon-time aides due to the district's school deficits are breaking the fast today. This comes after Harrisburg passed a school funding package last night in the Pennsylvania budget.

The breaking of fast was celebrated today by parents, school staff, community members, and clergy. There was a march, followed by a ceremony.

Although the newly passed budget doesn't guarantee the rehiring of the laid off school aides, the fasters are confident that the School District of Philadelphia will prioritize safe schools.
