Cobb police, firefighters under investigation for alleged steroid use

Posted: Updated:

Police officers and firefighters in Cobb County are under investigation for alleged steroid use.

FOX 5 has learned Cobb County is looking into public safety employees for allegedly purchasing and using steroids.

The investigation started in late May when the Marietta-Cobb-Smyrna Narcotics Unit notified county officials that a county employee may have been using illegal steroids. Since then, the investigation has grown to include five firefighters and one police officer.

Some of the employees have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Cobb County has a zero tolerance policy for illegal drugs.  The internal investigation is still ongoing and active.

Cobb County Manager David Hankerson said in a statement, "We expect our employees to follow the rules, to set a positive example for those around them and to hold themselves to the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty."

The Cobb County district attorney said that his office has not been contacted about any criminal charges yet.

At this point, the investigation is focused on violation of police and fire department policy on drug use, specifically steroids.
