Pottstown Cancels Fireworks For July 4th

POTTSTOWN, Pa. -

This year for Independence Day, Pottstown will emancipate itself from having fireworks.

The Fourth of July Committee cited lack of financial support as the reason. According to the committee, a traditional two-day celebration with fireworks costs $60,000. The committee still needs to raise more than $20,000 to have fireworks.

The parade will still be held, and a television program that focuses on craft beer will film an episode on a float in the middle of the parade.

The planning committee hopes to have the expanded celebration for 2014.
