Coweta County residents brace for more rain

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

Heavy rains caused minor flooding in a few places in Coweta County. More rain is in the forecast and that could make the flooding worse.

Instead of celebrating Independence Day, Rebecca West spent Thursday trying to stay dry.

"It is horrible and I don't get to do anything. I don't get to shoot off fireworks, I don't get to hang out with anybody," West said.

Creeks are near flood stage because of Thursday's rain, which makes minor flooding possible on the Fourth.

One homeowner got a couple inches of rain in the house because of flood water outside. The water receded on Thursday, but the family is praying that more rain doesn't bring it back.

J.C. Denson's mother turned 92 on Thursday, but her party was a "Yankee Doodle Dud," as FOX 5's Chris Shaw put it, after a cookout was cancelled.

Denson left Coweta County in hopes of beating another round of showers.

"I'm on my way being back home now because I want to get home before it gets dark. That water on the road, you don't see it, it looks like it's just wet. Then you're all over the place," Denson said.

Some folks didn't let a little rain dampen their spirits. Patrick Cruver said he was still planning on firing his grill up for some Fourth food.
