MCRAE, Ga. (AP) - Telfair County investigators believe they've identified a woman found dead in Ocmulgee River.

Sheriff Chris Steverson said they are waiting on DNA tests to confirm the woman's identity before notifying relatives, but they are calling the case a homicide. He said the woman was from outside Telfair County. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it is working with Ben Hill County Sheriff's Department on the case.

Fisherman found the body near a boat landing Thursday morning. The victim was described as a white woman wearing black capris and a khaki shirt. She had a surgical scar down her sternum. The sheriff said the body had probably been in the water a few days.
