Industry, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) Firefighters worked to douse a three-alarm fire that gutted an abandoned commercial building in Industry today and threatened to spread to nearby structures.

The blaze in the 700 block of South Ninth Avenue was reported about 10:20 a.m., said county fire Inspector Tony Akins. The building may have been used to house a food-packing business.

Fire crews fought the fire from outside the building as flames chewed through the roof, part of which later collapsed.

Firefighters were still pouring water into the building shortly after noon. The building is located near railroad tracks but its unclear if the blaze would impact train service through the area.

A firefighter reportedly was treated for heat exhaustion.
