East Point tables new budget

EAST POINT, Ga. -

City leaders in financial-strapped East Point tabled adopting a new budget on Thursday as the city continues to reel from a recent audit.

The audit found that $200 million in taxpayer dollars were spent by the city without any purchase orders over a 12 year period.

During that time, the audit showed some accounting records were missing or destroyed.

"What we're looking at is personnel as well as policies, and the counselor is now, as you can see tonight, being a bit more prudent and in demanding accountability -- something that has been sorely lacking in this city," said East Point Mayor Earnestine Pittman.

Pittman added that she believes there was criminal wrongdoing connected with the missing millions and has referred the matter to the Fulton County district attorney as well as to federal investigators.
