Water main break closes Long Island Drive in Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -

Crews worked to repair a large water main break in Sandy Springs on Friday.

Authorities closed Long Island Drive from Mitchell Road to Glen Errol Road as they worked to fix the break.

At its widest, the hole was about 6 feet wide and 6 to 7 feet deep.

More than a dozen residents along Long Island Drive were without water most of the day.

Homeowner Fran Galasso sustained some damage as muddy red clay covered her backyard. The steady stream caused her iron fence to lean and toppled a stone column.

Galasso said she's thankful that no one was injured.

Authorities have not confirmed what caused the break or exactly how long it will take for repairs.
