WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Warren Mayor's tells Fox 2 that a city employee accidentally shot himself inside City Hall earlier today. He is expected to be okay. But now, the city is taking another look at its weapons policy.

Watch Robin Schwartz's full video report above.

City employees tell us the chief electrical inspector accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday morning in the men's bathroom on the 3rd floor.

"It was an accident. He is a believer in constitutional rights to bear arms and he had a legal weapon on him," said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.

After the shooting, the man came out of the restroom in shock with the bullet still in his leg. He was treated at Beaumont Hospital and is expected to recover.

According to Michigan law, it's okay to bring a gun into a city building as long as the building doesn't have a courthouse in it.

Mayor Fouts plans on asking incoming city attorney David Griem to look into changing the city's weapons policy.
