Georgia jobs booming, hundreds up for grabs now

When it comes to unemployment, the numbers don't look good. But, here in Georgia, we're actually experiencing a surge in hiring.

"Atlanta, especially, has a lot of job openings and we just have to make sure we fill them," said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner or Economic Development for the State of Georgia.

That's the good news he's trying to spread.

"The last couple of years, we've sort of fell behind the country with our unemployment rate, but our growth has been better than 90 percent than the rest of the country in the last year-and-a-half. And, we're coming back," Cummiskey said.

According to recent numbers, Georgia is coming back with a vengeance. Cummiskey says Georgia has diversity in industry. Not only are companies like GE and AirWatch currently hiring hundreds of degreed positions, but other companies like Inalfa Roof Systems – a manufacturer new to Georgia and Alorica – has a call center that's hiring at incredible rates.

Lexy Desrosiers, of Alorica, said, "We are looking to employ 300 new hires each month. And, once we get into September, we'll be looking to hire 6,700 employees."

Alorica reps say there are permanent positions in Kennesaw, with plenty of opportunity for growth.

"We're global, so there's international opportunities," Desrosiers said. "We look to promote from within. Seventy percent of our managers have actually been promoted from within."

Cummiskey says the cloud of employment hanging over the state in finally lifting.

"The jobs are here and the companies are hiring," Cummiskey said. "You just have to get the resume back out there."

At Alorica, some – but not all – positions hiring are seasonal. But, some reps say the best of the seasonal employees are offered full-time positions.
