7 GA juvenile corrections removed in investigation

ATLANTA (AP) - Department of Juvenile Justice officials say seven juvenile corrections officers have either resigned or were fired in the wake of a safety and security investigation.

In a release Tuesday, Niles said the six officers and their supervisor worked at the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center and they made up the entire overnight security staff for the facility.

Niles says two corrections officers and a shift sergeant resigned and four officers were fired. Niles says the former corrections workers watched detainees freely enter and exit the detention center after lights-out.

News of the resignations and removals comes after the department recently announced that 19 officers in its investigations unit and their supervisor had been suspended because of unresolved probes into allegations of sexual abuse.
