There's nothing like a well-timed snack. And, Marie Spano -- dietitian to the Atlanta Hawks and minor league Atlanta Braves -- says snacking smart can allow you to actually snack often this summer.

You might not realize that about 1/3 of your daily calories comes from snacking. Snacks help bridge long gaps between mealtime and they can contribute to your total nutrition intake without ruining your waistline, if you choose wisely.

There are some wonderful options like fruit and certain nuts right at your fingertips. Here's what you should be reaching for the next time your stomach starts growling at home, at work or on the road.
