Two people are in the hospital, injured Sunday in what Brevard County Sheriff's deputies are calling a drug-related shooting.
The suspect shot two people in Sharpes, then took off running, according to Lt. Mike Scully. He was caught a short time later and taken into custody.
Deputies say they're still searching for evidence in the case.
"The investigation led us to him," Scully said. "At this point we're just trying to collect all the evidence and are trying to determine if the evidence supports what the investigation has uncovered."
Witnesses said the two victims were chasing the suspect down Ash Drive when the man turned around and shot both of them. Neighbors rushed to help the victims, putting pressure on the wounds until medics arrived.
Authorities are still looking for the gun. A dive team spent the afternoon combing a nearby pond, thinking the suspect tossed it in before he was arrested.
Divers were expected to head back into the water Monday.
Both of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released by the Sheriff's Office, was in the Brevard County jail Sunday awaiting charges.
