Estate of man shot at 130 times by deputies settles lawsuit
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
The family of a man shot at more than 130 times by deputies has settled a federal lawsuit with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Torey Breedlove's estate claims the Sheriff's Office used excessive force when deputies opened fire on him in January 2010. Breedlove was hit by more than 20 bullets while inside his sport-utility vehicle at an apartment complex in Pine Hills.
Breedlove drove at them and rammed their cars as he tried to get away, prompting them to open fire, deputies say. He was being pursued after deputies suspected him of stealing a vehicle for a crime spree, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
The judge in the civil case likened the shooting to an "execution" rather than attempted arrest, the Sentinel reported.
The Sheriff's Office admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement. The amount was not released.
