BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Back in May we showed you how D-T-E crews rescued an osprey nest from a power pole in Berlin Township.

Now, several months later those crews were back in Monroe County where they banded a recently hatched osprey chick that was still in its egg when the nest was first moved.

DTE Field Safety Specialist Jason Cousino spearheaded the effort to rescue the birds. "It's great to see the success. We were able to be part of this partnership and help the community, help the landfill and help the osprey watch group." Cousino says the osprey were moved because they were in danger of starting a fire after building their nest atop a power pole.

At one point osprey were almost extinct and gone from southeast Michigan. Now they're making a comeback and efforts like the one in Monroe County are helping to raise awareness.

Cousino says the male bird will bring a female back to the area where he was born and will hopefully keep reproducing in the area.

Holly Vaugh with the DNR says the birds were banded to help track their movements and migration patterns. "We know that they travel down to Central and South America.

Vaughn says the bird taken from the nest was dubbed "Jason Jr." in honor of Cousino and appears to be healthy. He is about two weeks away from being able to fly.

It's not just the styles that have changed with weddings over the years -- it's also the technology. Disposable cameras used to be the norm, but now there's an even simpler way for the bride and groom to get some candid photos of their special day.
